USTA – YMCA Junior Novice Tournament

Levi’s with his trophy.

Terry and I met Dad, Janice, Josh, Jill and Levi at the YMCA in Brentwood for the USTA (United States Tennis Association) Junior Novice Tournament at the unholy hour of 8am. You shouldn’t have to be anywhere on a Saturday morning at 8am. I’m just saying.

Today, Levi was to compete in a tennis tournament for boys 10 years of age and under. With temperatures forecast to be near 1oo degrees, we were fortunate that Levi was scheduled to play on the indoor courts. Hallelujah! If we would have had to sit outside on the metal bleachers, all that would have been left of me would have been a flesh colored puddle with a pair of pearl earrings.

Chris also swung by to check out the action as well between his pool building obligations.

Levi won three matches and lost one and after all the other boys played was awarded his very first tennis trophy. Woohoo!!

The plan today was to watch Levi compete and then all grab lunch together afterwards. The last match of the day was scheduled for 10:45am. Conservatively, we thought we would be eating around 11:3o. Well, best laid plans and all. The tournament began 30 to 40 minutes late so by the time all the boys played, it was well after 1pm. Needless to say we were starving. As soon as Levi was awarded his trophy we skedaddled and headed to Sam’s Place. We piled into a booth, ordered and while we waited watched the men’s doubles play at Wimbledon on the many TV’s placed around the restaurant.

It was definitely the clean plate club because again, starving. Jill ordered a gluten-free pepperoni pizza which she said was one of the best she has ever had, Josh had wings with scorpion sauce (yikes!), Levi had a Caesar salad (Isn’t that so grown-up? The back story is that he apparently tried one on their cruise this winter and he loved it.), Terry had half a rack of ribs with fries, Dad and Janice split a Reuben sandwich while Janice added a Caesar to their sandwich while I devoured the fried chicken tenders with fries. My, my, my. So good! Starvation enhances the enjoyment of every meal.

It was a great day for tennis and family!
