I met Dad, Janice, Phil, Josh, Jill and Levi around 7:45am this morning at the Sequoia Hills Tennis Club in Green Hills to watch Levi participate in the two day, USTA Sequoia Summer Classics Tournament.

Hanging out waiting for Levi’s match.

Levi playing his first and only match of the day.

The match began promptly at 8am and by about 8:30am the match was over and Levi was finished for the day. It wasn’t a win this time but he played well and went home with a lot of good tips for tomorrow.

When I arrived this morning, Dad was already on a court hitting with Levi and giving him suggestions for his match today. Okay, what is it about tennis tournaments and eight o’clock in the morning? Janice suggested that the next time we have an early morning meet up, she should bring a thermos of coffee and I chimed in and said I would bring muffins or doughnuts. I’m totally on board for coffee and pastries. Let’s make this happen

Dad and Levi warm up while Phil watches.

Chatting pre-game. Wonderful seats. It feels like we’re in the box seats at Wimbledon.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

Levi won his first match this morning so he was very excited about that.  Since we had a couple of hours before his next match at 11am, we decided to walk down to the clubhouse to see if we could scrounge up a cup of coffee. Unfortunately, the club didn’t open until 10:30am on Sundays so we just plopped down on the front porch like the Clampetts and just watched the grass grow.

I must take a moment to say that the clubhouse had the most beautiful Limelight hydrangeas in bloom. Bright white cone shaped blossoms with the palest hint of pink blushing the petals. They were veiled with dew and sparkled in the morning sun. Breath taking. Janice and I agreed that nature is a miraculous wonder.

While we were resting on our laurels, Norma arrived and we decided it was probably time to head back up to the courts. Having the munchies, we pulled out our bags of snacks, water, soft drinks, and fruit. Dad and Janice brought cheese peanut butter crackers, granola bars and chilled white grapes that were so refreshing in the summer heat while I brought granola bars, peanut butter crackers and pistachios. Very satisfying and took the edge off a hangry crowd.

Chilling at the club house.

Norma, Josh, Levi and Jill hanging out before Levi's last match of the day.

Levi’s last match began right at 11am. We settled into watch and were happy to see Roy, Lily and Elijah arrive to root for the home team.

Norma and Phil watch Levi. He's wearing the orange shirt.
Jill,Josh, Dad and Janice watch as well.

Levi was totally psyched to see Elijah and Lily.

Congrats to Levi for his 3rd place medal for boys 10 and under.

Shh...Roy reminding kiddos that matches are being played.
Cousins are the best!
