The Farm – September 2017

Beautiful flowers in bloom outside the log cabin.

The other day, Dad asked if Terry would mind coming up to lend a hand plumbing the new master bath in the log cabin. We were expected at 8am, bright and early, but by the time we got Jasper settled and the car loaded we arrived closer to 8:30am. Dad and Josh were eagerly awaiting our arrival and the boys immediately proceeded to the dark, musty depths of the crawlspace.

The girls, on the other hand, were able to finish our coffees and leisurely begin our day above ground. Levi, wrapped in his Spiderman robe, was snuggled on the bed playing on the iPad. We were invisible to him.

The first task on Janice and Jill’s t0-do-list was to head to Lowes to pick out and color match paint for the bathroom and to select shelving brackets for the cabin’s new walk-in closet. After our hardware excursion we swung by Kroger to pick up a few ingredients to stretch the Tex-Mex Crockpot Chicken Janice made last night. It was such a big hit with everyone that she decided it would be great for tonight too.

When we got back to the cabin, Levi was still ensconced on his iPad and we were hankering for something to eat. Buffalo P’s barbecue to the rescue. We heated up that delicious porky goodness, made sandwiches with a side of chips. So good!

Now with energy to tackle any job, Jill and Janice proceeded to prime the bathroom while I expertly supervised which essentially means I sat around and watched them work their tooshies off.

Around 5pm, Janice asked the boys to call it a day. They crawled out from under the cabin, dirty, tired and hungry. We all piled into the den and with college football on the tube in the background we consumed massive quantities of the crockpot chicken Janice had simmered throughout the day. Outside, it was just beginning to cool and a hearty bowl of shredded chicken and pinto beans dolloped with sour cream and served with crunchy, salty Tostitos was just what the doctor ordered. Perfect end to a perfect day.

So this is why they call it a crawl space. Dad joins Terry and Josh underneath the cabin. Good times.
