New Years Eve – 2009

Assembly work makes a girl hungry.

One of Roy’s Christmas presents from Leah this year were two tickets to the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta on New Years Eve.  Leah had asked if Terry and I would babysit Lily.  They would leave early Thursday morning, catch the game that evening and be back sometime Friday afternoon.  As would happen, Janice also asked if we had plans for New Years Eve.  I mentioned that we were babysitting Lily and we decided that we would babysit at the farm and ring in the New Year with Dad and Janice.

We left Franklin around 6:00 am to meet Roy, Leah and Lily at the Farm by 7:00 so they could get on the road.  While on our way to Gallatin, Leah called and asked if I would like something from Starbucks and I answered with a resounding “yes!”.  Caramel latte caffeine goodness…..yummy.

Lily had a little bit of a lingering cold but she was a real trooper.  She ably assisted Dad and Terry as they assembled and installed rolling shelves in the kitchen.  And in the spirit of a new year and new beginnings, Janice re-organized the kitchen by cleaning out every drawer and all the cabinets.  While the installing and organizing progressed, I seared a pot roast and chopped potatoes, carrots and onions for a hearty crock pot dinner.

Sometime within all the chaos of cleaning, cooking and honey do lists Josh, Jill and Levi stopped by for a visit and we all had lunch together.

Lily and I played quietly throughout the day and listened to her current favorite internet tune, “The Gummy Bear Song”.  It’s quirky and repetitive in a mind numbing sort of way but and it makes her happy.

After dinner, Lily’s bath and reading time, Lily was put in to bed and Dad, Janice, Terry and I and sat in front of the fire, snacked and played Rook as the clock struck twelve.

Roy and Leah returned early Friday disappointed at UT’s 37 to 14 loss to Virginia Tech but delighted with their fun getaway to Atlanta.
