Mother’s Day – 2018

To celebrate both Mother’s Day and Janice’s birthday, we all met up at the Farm for a cookout. Roy and Elijah arrived around noon while Lily spent the day with Leah attending the Renaissance Fair in Nashville. After hanging out and catching up for a bit, Terry presented Janice the handcrafted, wooden shelves with metal piping that he had created for her. This past winter, she had asked Terry if we would take on building this project and as it was now May, she was more than surprised to receive it saying she’d thought she’d never see it.

We had a wonderful time relaxing and just hanging out. Levi and Elijah ran around all day with Jack like mad banshees having a most excellent time.

As their chickens were laying like crazy, Dad asked if I wanted to take fresh eggs home with us and I said absolutely. We went to the chicken coop and started collecting. He asked if I knew how to test them and I said I didn’t so he showed me how easy it was. All you do is fill a sink with water and submerge the eggs. If the eggs sink to the bottom you have a winner. If they float, they’re a dud. Out of the dozen or so eggs we collected, only two were keepers.

Late in the afternoon, Josh grilled hamburgers for everyone which we enjoyed alongside potato salad, deviled eggs, baked beans, plain and bbq potato chips and strawberry lemonade.

After dinner, Dad let Levi and Elijah throw the dud eggs into the pond and also used them as target practice along the fence row.

We played corn hole and gathered around a roaring bonfire. As the sun began to set, Janice opened her gifts after which we dug into delicious, homemade strawberry cupcakes. So good!
