Many moons ago, Dad and Janice asked to treat us to lunch for my birthday. Today was the first opportunity we could mesh our schedules so we met up at the Sylvan Park Restaurant in Murfreesboro for an old fashioned meat n’ three meal.
Janice went for the healthier veggie plate that included pinto beans and baked squash, Dad went for country fried steak, Terry of course gravitated toward fried chicken with pinto beans and mashed potatoes while I went all in on their meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans and mac n’ cheese. I have missed having this meal at Dotson’s since they closed. Janice was worried they would run out of her favorite coconut cream pie with their mile high meringue so she went ahead and ordered two slices and had them brought to the table. Terry chose their chocolate pie while I settled on banana pudding.
After we finished our tasty lunch, they surprised me with a few gifts that totally spoke to me: a basket filled with homegrown tomatoes, basil and a mason jar of zinnias along with a package of mozzarella for my favorite summer salad. Add to that, the cutest 7.5 quart tangerine tinged Engel cooler filled with a dish towel embroidered with “Gallatin”, a jar of Elderberry jelly which Janice and Jill have raved about and the “The Echo of Old Books” which Janice said was an outstanding read. Thanks to Dad and Janice for an awesome birthday outing!
