May the 4th Be With You – 2024

Since 2011, fans of the movie “Star Wars” have selected the day, May 4 as a way to commemorate the epic movie franchise. They tweaked the catchphrase, “May the force be with you” from the movie series into, “May the 4th be with you” and celebrate the day by joining together at movie theaters to watch the original movie trilogy, “Star Wars”, “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi”.

Today being May 4th, I celebrated with Roy and Elijah by catching “Star Wars” at the Franklin Theatre. Premiering in 1977, this was the movie started it all and introduced us to the cinematic world of film maker, George Lucas and to the galaxy of fictional characters Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Darth Vader.

Roy swung by and picked me up on his way to pick up Elijah from his friend Eli’s home who lives just around the corner from us and we headed downtown. Seeing “Star Wars” again on the big screen gave me the same chills and thrills as it did when I was 10 years old. As soon as the rolling “Star Wars” logo appeared in the opening credits, the crowd erupted in cheers as they did at the end when Luke and Han received their medals from Princess Leia after successfully destroying the Death Star.

Waiting for the movie to start.
