This afternoon, I joined Roy in the parking lot of Landmark Booksellers where he set up his artist tent for the 31st annual Main Street Festival in downtown Franklin. While painting and chatting with potential patrons, we were entertained by the bluesy, rock, one-man band performance of Eric Heatherly. Roy summed it all up on his blog:
Well, thanks again to Andrea Davis for the heads up about the open space for the Franklin Main Street Festival! I was invited last week to set up at the Landmark Bookseller parking lot and exhibit my artwork on both Saturday and Sunday. However, due to scheduling conflicts, I was unable to set up Saturday, but was able to go out yesterday and set up next to other exhibiting artists, and it was great! Weather was iffy the entire time, but it was still a good day.
For the first time, I also brought along my brushes, paints, easel and a blank canvas and started in on working on a painting right then and there. I drew out a 1959 Gretch Guitar and then went about the business of painting it in. It was an attention grabber for sure, I had lots of people come by and just stand and watch the process. I’m all about sharing tips and tricks as well, so I had a good time with it. I didn’t get completely finished, but it was a nice start. I think I’ll do the same for the one in October.
And thanks again to my sister Michelle who came out to help. Having my back to the crowd meant I didn’t really know when people were walking up or had questions, but she was there to cover all the bases, answer questions and give out cards to anyone who was interested. Thanks!
Later,
Roy
