Levi’s 5th Birthday – 2014

The Dude ready to roller skate.

Today we celebrated Levi’s 5th birthday with a good old fashioned roller skating party. All the usual suspects gathered at the Sumner Skate Zone to skate, play arcade games and to enjoy cheesy pizza and cake. Before the festivities began, however, Terry and I made a brief detour to the Farm so Terry could finally open his homemade Christmas gift from Dad. Yes, I know it’s February but Terry was sick all during Christmas and well into the new year so there you go.

Anyway, we arrived at the Farm to the inviting aroma of freshly baked bread coming out of the oven. Three loaves beckoned to us as they cooled on the counter. Levi anxious to practice his gift opening abilities volunteered to help Terry open his presents. So with a little help, Terry unveiled a hand hewn piece of cedar cut from the farm and fashioned into a pencil holder holding twelve, unfinished Cedar Pointe No. 2 pencils. Along with this one of a kind gift, he also received an intrepid looking knife with a hand tooled leather holster both made by Janice’s cousin, Dan Driver. And since Terry wasn’t around on Christmas Eve, he finally received his Christmas pj’s. Better late than never.

Before we left for the rink, Chris had a gift for Levi that he wanted him to open at home. To Levi’s great delight, it was a box of daylight fireworks which the boys immediately went outside to detonate. As we watched with rapt attention, Captain America and twenty-nine of his fearless compatriots parachuted to earth carrying American flags with trails of green, purple, blue and yellow smoke.

Off to the skating rink we ventured. Those brave souls unafraid of broken bones or sore egos, spiritedly laced up their roller skates and hit the boards. Levi, Lily and Elijah were pretty much adorable as they eagerly looped  their way around the rink. It was trying and difficult with lots of falls and stumbles but they gave it all they had and never gave up.

After a few arcade games we made our way to the party room where we consumed copious amounts of pizza, Levi blew out the candles on his super cool, road construction cake and then opened his presents. He had a little practice earlier in the day so he was in good shape. He received so many fun gifts and had a thoroughly phenomenal time.
