Fun & Games

They have the need for speed.

Before school, Terry and I took Levi to the Holder Family Fun Center in Hendersonville for a last hurrah to summer. We wore the place out and doing everything we were big enough to do. Here’s what our day of fun looked like.

Bumper Cars: We bumped and collided and spun around in circles until we were dizzy.

Bungee Jumping: Levi and I jumped and flipped and dangled. After a few jumps and a couple of flips I was wiped out. Oh to be eight years old again.

Go Karts: Since Levi wasn’t tall enough to drive, he had the choice to ride with me or Terry. He of course, decided to ride with Terry. The upside was that Terry let Levi control the accelerator which means he put the petal to the metal.

We parked our karts and at this point, Terry and I called a time out. We were both starving so we headed to the cafe in the bowling alley and ordered hamburgers, crinkle fries and icy Cokes all around.

Rock Wall Climbing: There were two walls to climb and Levi tackled them both. I stuck to just one wall, climbing slowly while Levi scrambled up like Spiderman.

Mini Golf: 18 holes of glow in the dark, neon mini golf. I’ve never played golf in the dark but it was a hoot. Also, Levi and I somehow both managed to get a hole-in-one on the course. Bonus: the course was inside in the air conditioning while outside it was pushing 100 degrees.

Laser Tag: This is something that Terry and I have never experienced. Wearing vests with infrared sensors, you grab a laser gun and enter a darkened two level course with fabricated walls, pillars, mirrors, passages and obstacles to hide behind. To pounding music, you stealthily creep around the course trying to target the sensors on your opponents vests to score points. Levi, a.k.a. “Zulu”, beat the pants off of us. I think it was because he had the coolest call sign.

Roller Skating: I had every intention of taking a spin around the rink until I actually had the skates on my feet. Once I stood up, however, I thought this is an accident waiting to happen. Terry ignored my fears and hit the rink with Levi. I’m happy to say that we all emerged with no broken bones or bruised egos.

Arcade Games: We played a host of games including, air hockey, tandem motorcycle racing, Jurassic Park, Guitar Hero, Fast n’ Furious and Pirate Adventure. The Walking Dead game was out of order but we did manage to grab a photo with a zombie.

After the arcade we sidled over to the bowling alley where Terry smoked us.

One last round of bungee jumping and we called it a day. To put the cherry on the top of this fun outing, we swung by Dairy Queen for ice cream. Levi ordered a cone dipped in chocolate, I chose butterscotch dipped while Terry settled on a cinnamon pull apart for his sugar delivery system. It was so hot outside that Levi’s cone just kept melting and disappearing right in front of our eyes creating a small puddle in front of his seat. A total mess.

After cleaning Levi up so he could at least get into the car, we headed to the Farm to deliver Levi back into the waiting arms of Josh and Jill. Janice had picked up barbecue from Buffalo P’s on their way home from work so we sat on the back porch of the cabin and had sandwiches topped with cole slaw, chips and baked beans before we headed back to Franklin.
