Fourth of July – 2008

On a sultry summer afternoon, we all gathered at the farm to enjoy a hearty Fourth of July picnic and the firing of hundreds of fireworks. As rain clouds threatened throughout the day, Jill sat in the shade and shelter of the screened in back porch and patiently monitored the making of homemade vanilla ice cream for all of us to enjoy.  By late afternoon the clouds had moved on and we were ready to eat and celebrate.  We were eager to partake of delicious grilled hamburgers and cheese burgers, smoky baked beans, crispy potato chips, crunchy black bean and corn salsa and ice cold Coca-Cola’s.
As the sun settled into its resting place we sat beside a roaring bon fire and watched as bursts of color exploded across a darkened sky filling the air with a cacophony of noise.  We shouted in gleeful triumphant after each triumphant launch. We missed having Roy, Leah and Lily with us but we knew they were having a fabulous time in Blowing Rock with Fred, LaJuana and Grandmother Ginny. It was definitely a star spangled event at the farm full of great food, family, fireworks and fun.
