First Day of School – 2021

Every year I am surprised how quickly the new school year rolls around. I guess I have such wonderful memories of summer I just hate to see it end. You would think after being out of school for 36 years that it wouldn’t sneak up on me but it does.

Something else that sneaks up on me is how fast the kids are growing seemingly right before our eyes. Not only is Levi starting the 7th grade at Friendship Christian, he has shot up and his voice has dropped somewhere in the range of foghorn. He’s also practicing tennis after school each day, picking up a little tutoring and taking guitar lessons. That’s one busy dude.

Lily is gung-ho to conquer the 8th grade. Standing veritably eye-to-eye with each other, she is sporting a pixie cut for the first time ever. I know her friends will be surprised to see her without the long hair she has donned since kindergarten. She’s on the track team again this year, will be working backstage as crew member during BGA’s theatrical performances and may even give the swim team a go.

And then there’s Elijah. He officially “graduated” from the lower elementary school in May and is now attending the upper school as a 5th grader. He’s excited about this new phase and looking forward to his Latin class and not having to catch the bus each afternoon to join Lily for pick-ups. Elijah also starts this school year without braces or glasses. With the patient help of Dad and Janice, he navigated the transition to contacts. A true rite of passage. Talk about a transformation. What a handsome guy!

Levi strutting his stuff for his first day of the 7th grade. 7th grade y'all!!!!
Lily is ready to tackle the 8th grade.
Elijah officially enters middle school joining the ranks of 5th graders.
