Elijah’s First Soccer Game

A glorious spring day bloomed this morning bursting with color and energy. The kind of day that really puts a pep in your step and makes you think of endless possibilities. What better way to kick off new beginnings than with a little pee wee soccer. With lawn chairs and blankets thrown in the back of the car, I met up with the Franklin Laws clan to watch Elijah as he participated in his very first soccer game. Fred and LaJuana happened to be in town for a visit so they joined in the merriment as well.

The Happy Feet pre-schoolers soccer league met on the athletic fields behind the Fellowship Baptist Church on Franklin Road where we all gathered to watch the magic happen. As we waited for the practice to begin, Roy and Elijah found an empty field and passed the ball back and forth. It was wonderful to watch Elijah enjoy his one-on-one time with his daddy and obvious to see that Elijah is a natural athlete. He’s coordinated, has great hustle and energy and seemed to enjoy the athleticism of the game.

Yet, his first foray into group sports was definitely hit-or-miss. At times he was caught up in the excitement and fun of the sport and it was hilarious to watch the little ones running around all higgledly-piggledy. But at other times he was clearly miserable and just wanted to go home. However, as you can see by the photo on the bottom right of the collage, with a little encouragement from Roy and Leah and his incredibly patient coaches, Elijah rallied and ended the day on a happy, high note.

Roy back in the day.
Am I seeing double?
