Easter – 2017

Hand crafted lamby’s for the kiddos.

Several years ago, I found this adorable pattern for little stuffed lambys on Etsy that I thought would be wonderful to give to the wee little ones for Easter. Fast forward several years, and the kiddos aren’t so little anymore but I still had this pattern and all the materials laying around the house so I hunkered down and began crafting.

As I studied the directions, which gleefully professed it was a simple, three hour project, I flash backed to why I had deep sixed this project. Do not be deceived by the lambs sweet smile and unassuming face. It is a felt ogre disguised as a cuddly lamb. I’m a novice stitcher and tend to work better with the exactness and precision of a cross stitch pattern rather than relying on my ability to recreate hundreds of tiny, perfect little stitches. Every stitch whether it be a French knot, blanket stitch, satin, running or backstitch was new to me so I had to youtube educate myself on the fly. This was a waking nightmare. Why have I wrought this crafting abomination down upon myself? Why? After many long, suffering nights, with bifocals perched on the tip of my nose, I finished the varmints just in time for Easter.

My first Easter delivery was to Levi so off to Gallatin I trekked. Since I arrived at the office before Levi got out of school, I was able to ride along with Jill to pick him up at the bus stop. So much fun! I can definitely say he was surprised to see me sitting in the front seat.

Back at the office it was “happy” time. You should have seen the look on Levi’s face when he opened his lamby. Befuddlement and bewilderment. It was hysterical. I told him that I bought the template for the Easter lamb when he was an itty bitty and have just gotten around to making it and that one day he’ll look back and say my crazy, feeble, old aunt made this for me. To his credit, he smiled and thanked me. Now that’s just good parenting right there.

To make up for the anticipated let down of opening a gift and finding something a toddler would happily put in its mouth, I also brought along plates of pink, bunny shaped Rice Krispie treats. Whew, crisis averted. Everyone was super excited with the treats and decided a hot beverage was a must. Using the Keurig, Levi made cups of coffee for Jill and Janice and a cup of hot cocoa for himself.

Jill giggles at the lambs cuteness and to Levi’s reaction. Levi can’t wait to dig into the bunny Krispies.

Along with Levi’s lamby, I brought along another craft project that I have had on my mind for literally years. Before the kiddos even started school, I thought it would be a great idea to create a storage system for the tired and bedraggled parents to store the voluminous amount of papers, report cards and art they were about to be barraged with on a daily basis. I landed on plastic storage boxes with hanging, tabbed folders. Terry designed marvelous graphics for me including personalized name plates for each box, tabs for each grade, and a wonderful interview sheet with room for a school photo for the first day of school for each year. Levi wasn’t exactly thrilled with the memory box but Jill was which was what I hoped.

On Sunday, I meandered over to Roy’s to deliver Easter “happy’s” to Lily and Elijah. They were quite taken with the lambs and genuinely seemed to like them. Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather. In fact, they seemed impressed that I could make a stuffed animal and Roy was surprised that I had such mad skills. I was seriously shocked myself. Of course, the big hit were the bunny Rice Krispie treats. Indeed, there’s no denying their sugary goodness.
