Easter – 2013

It was a gloomy and overcast morning as we headed to the Farm with Jasper in tow arriving around 12:30pm. It was so good to see everyone. The dining room table was set beautifully with a palette of pink and white. Our happy’s were Ghiradelli chocolate squares and a packet of sunflower seeds.

The Easter menu was as follows: baked ham, deviled eggs, blanched asparagus sprinkled with parmesan, scalloped potatoes with Gruyere cheese, baked beans, green peas, pasta primavera salad, bacon wrapped dried apricots, yeast rolls, iced tea and ice cold Cokes.

For dessert, Jill made mini-cupcakes with a buttercream frosting and a jelly bean perched on top. We also had two, yes two, ice cream cakes. A triangle cake with a pink Peep on top was chocolate with strawberry ice cream while the other shaped like a giant yellow chick was a white cake with coconut ice cream with a layer of crushed almonds in between.  Both were amazing!

After our delicious lunch and dessert, Levi, Lily and Elijah opened their Easter baskets and played with all their goodies.  You could hardly tear them away to hunt their Easter eggs. Eggs had been hidden throughout the house due to the inclement weather but as the day began to clear up the powers that be decided it would be more fun to hunt for the eggs outside. Once the eggs were hidden, Lily, Levi and Elijah were let loose. Along with the plastic eggs filled with candy, shiny eggs filled with loose change were also hidden. Talk about an incentive.

Levi and Lily ran around the back yard like wild banshees. In the end, Levi was despondent because he didn’t have as many eggs as Lily. As they were walking back toward the screened in porch, Lily spied a lone, pink plastic egg. She stopped in her tracks and called out to Levi in what we all thought was a grand gesture on Lily’s part to unselfishly allow him to find the last egg to brighten his spirits. As he approached the lauded egg with excitement, Lily gleefully snatched up the egg with a conquering whoop. Hilarity ensued for all except for Levi who crumpled with despair. In an almost perfect act of cosmic karma, Lily dropped the egg on the sidewalk breaking it in two spilling out all of the jelly beans. While Jill consoled Levi, Lily apologized, gave Levi a big hug and all was right with the world.

As the weather warmed up we all gathered on the porch and soaked up the sun while the kids opened their eggs and added up their loose change.

And a gathering wouldn’t be complete if Levi didn’t have more birthday gifts to open. This time the gifts were from Roy and Leah.  Along with an awesome Hot Wheels track, Levi received three ghoulish monster paintings by Roy for his bedroom.

Thanks to Dad, Janice and Josh and Jill for hosting a wonderful Easter gathering.
