Michelle’s Birthday – 2019

Today was a double header. Not only was it my birthday, yay me, but Levi was scheduled to play a tennis match tonight at Drakes Creek Park. I was anxious to see one of his games so Terry and I planned to be there. Before the big game, Dad and Janice asked us to meet up with them at the Culver’s in Hendersonville for a pre-match dinner.

We all arrived around 5pm, grabbed some tables and then unbeknownst to me was surprised with birthday gifts. So thoughtful and unexpected. From Dad and Janice, I received a hilarious card with Wednesday Addams on the front that said “I Goth You a Card” which totally cracked me up with an Amazon gift card enclosed, a vase of zinnias, four cucumbers and their second ripe tomato of the season from the garden, a farmers basket filled with white, felted wool dryer balls – three with the cutest sheep faces, two vintage embroidered kitchen towels with kittens, one ironing and one mopping that Janice picked up at an estate sale and finally a white gravy boat with blue embellishments that belonged to Mama Taylor.

Josh, Jill and Levi gave me a cute card with a hamster on the front that Levi picked out that when opened, sang happy birthday in a super high voice, a pair of Yellowbox flip flops with pineapples on the top and a tropical inspired, red sleeveless tank with a palm tree on the front. What a blast!

After opening gifts, Dad and Janice treated us to dinner. We had burgers, fries, onion rings, fried cheese curds, milkshakes and one solitary Reuben for Josh.

Janice and I were super psyched to order banana milkshakes to take with us to the tennis courts only to discover that they were out of bananas. Nooooo! To console us, we both ordered frozen vanilla custards instead. Definitely a first world problem.

Levi had to be at the park to begin his tennis match at 7pm so we had to boogie. We arrived at Drakes Creek Park, set up our camping chairs and waited for the fun to begin. His first match was a singles and second was doubles. Until Levi qualifies for the USTA program he has to play half court with a bigger tennis ball but next year after he’s earned his points or aged out he will be able to play competition full court.

He finished his matches right about 8pm and we got on the road to try to get ahead of an incoming thunderstorm.

What a great birthday shared with family and just like old times, a fun, summer evening hanging out at the tennis courts.
