Cookie Day – 2012

Elijah, Levi and Lily showcase their cupcakes.

Cookie Day kicked off Saturday morning with everyone excited and ready to bake.  Happy’s were given, shared, oohed and aahed over while copious amounts of doughnuts and coffee were consumed to give us a sugary, caffeinated boost.

As always there was much laughter and frivolity.  What is that saying about having to break a few eggs to make an omelet?  It was that kind of day.  While Jill was using the mixer, a plate accidentally slipped into the sink breaking and in the process also breaking a glass measuring spoon. Of course, Terry teased Jill mercilessly and had us all splitting our sides.  Speaking of eggs, I’m pretty sure Papa’s boiled custard had a few scrambled eggs in it this year.  Evasive measures were taken

It was such a mild December day that the kids divided their time between baking and playing outside.  In fact, we left the doors open so they  could just run in and out.

By the end of the day we had a cornucopia of sweets and treats: Papa’s boiled custard, Leah’s tea cookies, Dad and Janice’s rugelach with chopped pistachios and dried cranberries, Dad’s peanut butter cookies, Curtis and Carson’s ninjabread and melty snowmen cookies, Jill’s chocolate cake cookies, Amy’s crescent moon jam filled cookies, Spritz cookies and the chocolate and red velvet cupcakes the kids made with their BabyCakes cupcake makers they received from Gigi and Big Daddy.

I love kicking off the holidays with Cookie Day.  It was a wonderful day filled with family, fun and lots of calories.
