This morning, Terry and I met Roy, Lily and Elijah at the Music City Center, the new convention center in downtown Nashville, to check out the annual Boat Show. Imagine 180,000 square feet of boats, jet skis and nautical accessories. In addition to all of the beautiful boats, they also had a catch and release trout pond for the kiddos, a virtual reality boat race, and the Jack Daniels “Taste of Tennessee” mobile museum, with black and white photos and displays that described the distillation process.
Our favorite boat by far was the Regal 3300 priced at the low, low price of $300,000. It was amazing. It had beautiful teak decking at the rear of the boat, luxurious seating, motorized canopy for shade, a crazy sound system, a built in outdoor TV, sink, mini-fridge and trash can, a teeny tiny bathroom and a hidden compartment for storage or sleeping. Did I mention it costs only $750 to fill it up with gas?
After we exhausted the exhibit, we toured the vastness of the Music City Center. It is absolutely enormous with miles of escalators, local art, and acrophobia inducing balconies and overlooks.
Terry and I didn’t make it to the roof but Roy and the kids did. The roof consists of four acres of green space along with 845 solar panels and the ability to collect 360,000 gallons of rainwater. Another cool feature are the four beehives containing 100,000 bees. Last year, the bees provided 60 pounds of honey for the Center.
Back on terra firma, we went across the street and checked out iconic printers, Hatch Show Print, purveyor of world famous letterpress posters, in their new location next to the Country Music Hall of Fame. Such a cool place.
