BGA Homecoming – 2017

Preparing to sing the alma mater at half time. Lily is on the second row, about three over from the right.

Roy called this afternoon and asked if I would like to tag along with him to BGA’s homecoming football game tonight against Whites Creek. Lily would be performing with the Wildcat Choir on the football field at half-time. Well I just had to see that.

Roy picked me up and we were almost to the BGA upper school when he realized he had forgotten his camera. We hot footed it back to his house, picked it up and then once again onto the school.

Catching a beautiful sunset on the way to the game.

Just inside the stadium proper is an enormous grassy area next to the home side bleachers. It is an absolute magnet for kids to run, play, toss a ball and just engage in general frivolity. Before kick off, the kiddos were running around the like wild banshees just having a blast. We let them run amok for a bit and then corralled them to grab a bite to eat before Lily’s performance. We ordered hot dogs, chips and drinks from the refreshment stand and stood near the end zone, eating and watching the game. As we were enjoying our junk food smorgasbord it became quite obvious that Elijah was coming down with a bug. While he was playing with his school mates he was oblivious to his discomfort.  As soon as he sat down and his adrenaline began to wane, he completely fell out.

Hanging out with the kiddos in the play area.
Finishing dinner. Can you see the misery written all over his face?

Shortly before half time, the teachers began assembling the Wildcat Choir. The choir consists of students from kindergarten through high school and it’s so cute to see the itty bitty’s with the older kids. They convened on the field and after the presentation of  senior athletes with their parents, the Wildcat Choir proudly sang their alma mater. Here are the lyrics just in case you were curious. Sing along if you like.

BGA Alma Mater

On our city’s northern border,

Reared against the sky.

Proudly stands our alma mater,

As the years go by.

Forward ever be our watch word,

Conquer and prevail.

Hail to thee our alma mater,

Battle Ground all hail.

Pretty much as soon as Lily finished singing we were out the gates headed to the truck so Elijah could get home and start to recuperate. Bless his little heart.

To top off homecoming, the BGA Wildcats defeated the Whites Creek Cobras 44-6.

Lily having fun with her school mates.

This little guy is ready to call it a night.
